WET RISER TANK & POTABLE COLD WATER STORAGE TANK

43 Wembley Hill Road, London is a Hotel Development two minutes walk from Wembley Stadium requiring a reduced capacity wet riser system to meet the configuration of BS9990, and a cold water storage tank to meet the useable capacity demand for full occupancy.

The client stated: Our biggest challenges with this project were the restricted head height, due to the dropped columns in the plant room, the tanks had very large footprints, and with only 1.5m head of water, this meant that the wet riser tanks were very large, and designing them into the plant room was tricky.

Initially, this was proposed to Dewey Waters as multiple tanks, however, on completion of a site visit to measure and provide the best technical advice our team was able to offer this service at no extra expense. The outcome from our site visit resulted in a relocation of the tanks and to combine the wet riser tanks into one split compartment tank to reduce floor space of which also reduced the overall tank and project cost.

Further to the above challenges of restricted space both around the perimeter of the tank and meeting the minimum access requirement on the top of the tank, we then had to configure the design to meet the compulsory effective capacity of 45,000 litres.

Our solution was to apply a GRP HLU sectional tank which was specially manufactured to a bespoke height of 1.6m.  This bespoke manufacturing process allows us to be flexible with tank size and enable us to fit water tanks into a greater selection of irregular shaped rooms or confined spaces.

Our logistics team organised a tail lift truck from the courier to deliver direct to Wembley Hill Road, London.
The entire install of both the wet riser and cold water storage from delivery, site induction, and installation, took the team four days to complete. The new water tanks are WRAS approved and compliant with current British Standards.  The wet riser was configured in accordance with the requirements of BS9990 and upon completion passed to the Sprinkler specialists to connect to their sprinkler system.
